Introduction

Investing in architecture and design is not merely about creating beautiful spaces — it is a strategic approach that ensures long-term profitability. These investments are especially relevant in tourist regions, where every detail can determine a project's success. A striking example of the effective synergy between architectural vision, design, and economic benefit is the Virgin Beach Hotel project in Bali, presented by Ihor Martin, founder and chief architect of Martins Studio, during the Ukrainian Investment Congress "Invest in Ukraine".

The Congress took place on March 6, 2025, in Kyiv, gathering over 6,000 participants, including government representatives, international investment funds, business leaders, developers, construction companies, bankers, and experts in economics, finance, and real estate.

The event’s participants discussed key issues surrounding the recovery and future development of Ukraine’s tourism, hospitality, and hotel design solutions during and after the war. Key topics included investment in income-generating real estate, foreign investment interest in Ukraine, the prospects of the "єOselya" housing program, architecture in Ukraine, development of safe shelters, growth of the logistics and industrial real estate market, and the potential of the hotel industry, including innovative hotel design visualization.

One of the most engaging presentations came from Ihor Martin (Martins Studio), who shared a real-life case study — "How to Build a Successful Investment Project in Bali: Virgin Beach Hotel". In his speech, he detailed the journey from concept to successful implementation, covering interior design, practical advice from professional architects, and shared insights into contemporary trends in innovative hotel design visualization and sustainable ukraine interior design.

The Symbol of Garuda and Harmony with Nature: The Concept of Virgin Beach Hotel

The creation of Virgin Beach Hotel was a true challenge that turned into an inspiring journey into the world of harmony between architecture, nature, and culture. The core idea was to combine traditional Balinese architecture with modern design solutions that would meet the expectations of both discerning travelers and international investors.

The Martins Studio team thoroughly studied the location — a picturesque coastline offering breathtaking ocean views on one side and lush tropical jungle on the other. This unique natural combination became the foundation of the creative concept for the resort, aligning with the studio’s approach to exclusive architectural projects and hotel design solutions.

Drawing inspiration from the roots of Balinese culture, the architects chose the powerful image of Garuda — a mythical bird revered in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology — as the symbol of the complex. The majestic wings of Garuda inspired the design of the roof structure, crafted using a combination of metal and wooden frameworks, enhanced with eco-friendly materials such as bamboo.

This architectural approach not only created a striking visual identity but also symbolically emphasized the atmosphere of protection and harmony with nature — a quality deeply appreciated by hotel guests. It is a perfect example of how interior design with sustainable materials can complement a resort’s cultural concept.

During the project development, the architects at Martins Studio conducted a thorough analysis of the site, which possessed its own unique characteristics: on one side, the plot opened up to a picturesque coastline, while on the other, it was surrounded by lush tropical jungle. Taking these features into account, the team created an ideal space that blends harmoniously with the surrounding environment and highlights its natural beauty to the fullest.

The rich cultural heritage of Bali served as a key source of inspiration in the development of the architectural concept. At the heart of the complex's design, the architects chose the Garuda — a powerful mythical bird deity revered in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The majestic wings of Garuda became a central architectural motif and the defining symbol of the entire hotel ensemble.

The building’s unique roof was designed using a combination of metal and wooden frames, with bamboo elements and a super-durable ironwood called "ulin" as the primary cladding material. This structure, echoing the silhouette of the mythical bird’s wings, symbolically creates a sense of shelter and comfort for every hotel guest, emphasizing the harmonious connection between the resort, the natural landscape, and the cultural spirit of Bali.

Innovations in Architecture: BIM Modeling and Design Accents

In his presentation, Ihor Martin provided an in-depth overview of the innovative design approach implemented during the creation of the Virgin Beach Hotel. One of the key success factors was the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies. This approach enabled the development of a detailed digital model of the complex and ensured effective communication among all project stakeholders — architects, engineers, designers, and contractors.

A unified information base significantly reduced the risk of technical errors, increased accuracy at every stage of design and construction, and allowed for a considerable reduction in project timelines. Thanks to BIM integration, the team was able to anticipate challenges at early stages, adapt solutions swiftly, and deliver the highest quality of architectural execution.

As part of the overall architectural concept, a detailed master plan was developed with special attention to site zoning — in particular, the arrangement of the swimming pool and recreational areas. Every element of the space was carefully considered — from spatial planning to the smallest decorative details.

Ihor Martin shared unique design solutions that became true highlights of the project. Among them are a stunning waterfall in the hotel lobby, decorative accent columns, and a "starry sky" ceiling effect — all of which create a magical atmosphere from the very first moments in the complex.

Special attention was given to the restaurant on the ground floor, designed in a stylish and expressive tropical theme. Its bar counter features cylindrical shapes reminiscent of bamboo stems, complemented by metallic accents. The overall aesthetic is enhanced by furniture made from natural textures and woven materials, immersing guests in a refined yet nature-inspired ambiance.

A Realm of Play and Imagination: The Hotel's Children's Zone

The children’s area of the hotel complex has been designed to be original, convenient, and slightly fantastical — a space that instantly captures the imagination of both children and adults. This is far more than a typical playroom; it’s an immersive world of adventure, where every detail has been thoughtfully crafted.

The highlight of the children's zone is a set of innovative tube slides made from transparent metal, leading into a ball pit — a dynamic area that evokes genuine delight among the youngest guests. Suspended above the play area is a spider-web climbing net, which not only adds an element of physical activity but also serves as a striking decorative feature within the interior design.

Another part of the space serves as a cozy area for relaxation, reading, or watching cartoons. Soft furniture with organic shapes, upholstered in natural textures, creates a comfortable atmosphere for leisure. Wooden panels, subdued lighting, and a neutral color palette blend harmoniously with the natural landscape outside the windows.

A separate zone is equipped with a modern multimedia system for video games, movie watching, and interactive activities. The overall concept is completed by thematic décor featuring a starry sky effect on the ceiling, immersing children in a true fairy-tale atmosphere.

The children's area at Virgin Beach Hotel serves as a prime example of how architecture and design can create an emotional space that not only brings joy but also reflects genuine care for the hotel’s youngest guests.

A Space for Harmony: The Architectural Concept of the Hotel Rooms

Special attention was given by Igor Martin to the architectural and interior design concept of the Virgin Beach Hotel’s guest rooms. Each room is thoughtfully designed to ensure maximum comfort, privacy, and aesthetic pleasure. Key features include a private terrace with panoramic views and an open-concept bathroom—details that make every stay truly unique and memorable.

The architect provided a detailed overview of the standard room concept. The interior is styled in light, natural tones and features materials such as wood, stone, and porcelain stoneware. The space is functionally divided into three zones.

The first is the entrance area and bathroom, distinguished by warm wooden paneling that creates a cozy atmosphere from the very first steps. The second zone is the bedroom, which includes a large double bed, wooden accents, and a comfortable writing desk—allowing guests to effortlessly combine relaxation with work, should the need arise.

The third part of the suite is a spacious terrace — the true gem of this project. Its standout feature is a separate bathtub made of natural stone, placed right under the open sky. This element brings a touch of spa-like ambiance and makes every stay truly exceptional. The centerpiece of the suite is the breathtaking ocean view, which unfolds directly from the bath area, offering a profound sense of connection with nature.

A View That Captivates: Premium Rooms with Jungle and Ocean Scenery

The second room category at Virgin Beach Hotel features stylish apartments offering breathtaking views of lush tropical palm jungles. The spacious room, filled with natural light through large panoramic windows, radiates a sense of serenity enhanced by an interior designed in soft, earthy tones. Natural materials such as wood, stone, and woven textures are used in the decor, creating a harmonious connection with the surrounding environment.

Special attention has been given to the bathroom area. Large glass partitions separating the main interior space from the terrace with a bathtub create a sense of a unified environment. When the sliding doors are open, the interior seamlessly merges with the surrounding nature. The natural stone bathtub on the terrace becomes a sanctuary of pure relaxation — perfect for unwinding alone or together.

Type 3 Suite is a private two-story villa designed for those who value complete privacy and maximum comfort. The ground floor features a kitchen-living area with an additional sleeping space and access to a cozy terrace. The upper floor offers a bedroom with a spacious, comfortable bed and a stunning view.

The main advantage of this room type is the breathtaking panoramic view of the ocean. The architects designed the interior to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, preserving its natural beauty. The spacious viewing terrace offers a stunning vista, while nearby you'll find a restaurant, bar, event area, cinema, and a space for group workouts — everything you need for relaxation, socializing, and wellness.

A Benchmark of Architectural Excellence and Investment Success

In conclusion, it is safe to say that Virgin Beach Hotel has become the perfect resort, seamlessly combining comfort, a spirit of adventure, and aesthetic exclusivity. This is a place where every detail — from architecture to interior design — is meticulously crafted to deliver a unique and unforgettable experience for guests.

The dedicated work of a professional team, attention to detail, and deep understanding of Bali’s natural and cultural context have resulted in a true architectural masterpiece. Virgin Beach Hotel is more than just a hotel — it is a prime example of how high-quality architecture and design can drive strong investment appeal.
